When my father fell ill around 2012/2013, I anticipated a strain on my parents marriage. As anyone would, when you've been together for over 40 years.

Not that I doubted the empathy or sympathy of my parents, but it was unexpected to see how they bonded; took care of each other; spoke differently to one another, when they were faced with mortality. A contrast to the fraught version of their union that I otherwise knew.

There is plenty of memorabilia showing happier times. Home made video tapes and framed slides of a younger couple smiling and embracing.
